Secretary of State Office Makes Securities Fraud Arrest
Las Vegas, NV – Secretary of State Ross Miller announced today that investigators from the Securities Division, Office of the Secretary of State executed a criminal arrest on Peter "Tahiti Pete" Douglas Ortman and Starfish Capital Partners, Inc. in an investigation of securities law violations.
Investigators allege Peter "Tahiti Pete" Douglas Ortman offered and sold stocks issued by Starfish but made false statements and withheld material facts from investors. Ortman is neither licensed to sell securities, nor are the Starfish stocks registered with the State of Nevada.
Starfish Capital Partners, Inc. is a holding company for a conglomerate of subsidiary corporations, which included such businesses as a travel company, a cigar company and Tahiti Pete Enterprises, an internet travel company.
Ortman was booked on felony violations for the sale of unregistered securities, the sale of securities by an unlicensed representative and securities fraud.
"Our initial investigation discovered over $100,000 of investors' money was lost," said Secretary Miller. "With the issuance of the search warrant and arrest, our office was able to prevent investors from potential future losses."
Investigators referred the criminal case to the Attorney General's office for prosecution. Ortman's arraignment is set for April 27, 2007, in Las Vegas Justice Court 1.
As in all criminal matters, the office maintains that the allegations are merely accusations and individuals are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
