Secretary of State's Office to Bring Notary Training to Elko
(Carson City, NV; August 27, 2009) – Secretary of State Ross Miller’s staff will be in Elko Thursday, September 17 to provide the required training for anyone interested in becoming a notary public. The session will be held from 3 PM – 7 PM at the Red Lion Inn.
The Secretary of State’s Office brings the training to the City of Elko once a year. Sessions are held in Reno and Las Vegas throughout the year. The training is mandatory for anyone applying to be a notary public for the first time, anyone renewing their appointment if their previous appointment expired more than a year ago, and anyone renewing who has been fined for failing to comply with a Nevada statute or regulation in the last four years.
Individuals interested in attending must register at the Secretary of State’s website at www.nvsos.gov/licensing/notary/classes.asp. There is a $45 fee for the class.
Notary Division Administrator Bru Ethridge will conduct the training. She reminds interested individuals that completion of the training is just the first step toward becoming a notary public. Individuals will then have 45 days to obtain a surety bond from a registered insurance agent, file it with their county clerk, and submit their notary public application form to the Secretary of State’s office along with their training certificate and a $35 filing fee.
An explanation of the application process and a description of the responsibilities of a notary public can be found at www.nvsos.gov. Click on “Notary” in the Business Center.
