Posted Date: 1/30/2008
Carson City, NV – Secretary of State Ross Miller today announced the launching of Nevada’s first “Please Don’t Call” list which gives Nevada voters the opportunity to tell political campaigns that they do not want to receive campaign telephone calls. Voters can easily place themselves on the list by visiting the free “My Voter File” online service at the Secretary of State’s website.

“I’m hearing from a lot of frustrated voters who are tired of having their lives interrupted by campaign calls,” said Miller. “This list is called ‘voluntary’ because it’s ultimately up to the campaigns to voluntarily honor the voter’s expressed preference.”

To enroll on the “Please Don’t Call” list, Nevada voters can visit, log in with the requested information, and click on the “search” button. When their registration information appears, there will be a “Please Don’t Call” box for them to check.

The Please Don’t Call registrants will be noted on the Secretary of State’s statewide voter registration list, which is frequently used by campaigns to target registered voters. Other services available through “My Voter File” include updated information on individuals’ registration status, voting history, and polling location. All information provided through “My Voter File” is done so in a secure and confidential manner.

***EDITORS/PRODUCERS: Secretary Miller will be available for in-person interviews in Southern Nevada Wednesday, 1/30. He will be available in Reno/Carson City Thursday, 1/31. To arrange an interview please call Bob Walsh (contact information above).
