Candidate Filing for Special Election to Fill U.S. House Vacancy to Begin Wednesday, May 25

(Carson City, NV; May 23, 2011) – Secretary of State Ross Miller’s office will begin accepting declarations of candidacy for the September 13, 2011 special election Wednesday, May 25, at 8 AM. The filing period will run through June 30, per the May 19 court ruling by 1st Judicial District Court Judge Todd Russell.

Filing officers will accept declarations from independent candidates and candidates from minor parties without ballot access if they submitted the required signatures to a county clerk or registrar by the May 18 deadline. Candidates from major parties and minor parties with ballot access may also file beginning Wednesday morning.

The Secretary of State’s office encourages interested individuals to call 775-684-5705 to schedule an appointment to file their declarations. Candidates must bring a photo ID and proof of physical residency. There is no filing fee. The special election calendar and other detailed information are being updated and will be posted at www.nvsos.gov.

The Attorney General’s office has filed a Notice of Appeal of the 1st Judicial District Court ruling to the Nevada Supreme Court.
