New Non-Partisan, Minor Party voters sign up at higher rate
than Republicans and Democrats

(Carson City, NV; August 2, 2010) – The number of active registered voters in Nevada went up by 6,728 in July, just over half the number that registered in the month before (12,814). Nevadans signed up as members of the Independent American Party (+1.3%), or Libertarian Party (+2%), or as Non-Partisans (+1.1%) at more than double the rate of Republicans (+.5%) or Democrats (+.47%).

Though still very small in total numbers, the “other” category, which includes the Green Party, Reform Party, and Tea Party of Nevada grew at more than five times the rate of the two major parties (+2.6%).

Of the total 1,084,098 active registered voters in the state at the end of July, 458,844 are Democrats, 400,923 are Republicans, 165,553 are Non-Partisans, 46,001 are members of the Independent American Party, 6,297 are Libertarians, and 6,480 belong to one of the “other” parties. Democrats continue to outnumber all other party registrations in each age group.

The deadline to register to vote by mail for the November 2, 2010 general election is Saturday, October 2. The deadline to register in person is Oct. 12.
