(Carson City, NV; April 19, 2013) — The North American Securities Administrators Association and AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons) have teamed up to host a joint webinar, “Protect Your Finances: Tips to Avoid Financial Fraud,” that is free to the public.

The online interactive discussion will answer questions about ensuring the security of a nest egg. Webinar hosts will also highlight tips for senior citizens to hang on to their hard-earned money, including:

  • Spotting common warning signs of a scam;
  • Making sure investment products are right for the individuals; and
  • Researching financial professionals.

The webinar takes place on Tuesday, April 23 at 11 a.m. PST. Questions can be submitted in advanced to moneywebinars@aarp.org or during the live conversation. Register to attend by clicking here. If you are unable to attend but still register, you will receive a link to the webinar recording to listen at your convenience.

“Following the March sentencing of Jean Marc Eljwaidi, who was ordered to serve 21 months in prison and pay $1.8 million in restitution after pleading guilty to wire fraud, I can’t stress enough the importance of learning the warning signs of fraud,” said Secretary of State Ross Miller. “An individual could work his or her whole life building a tidy nest egg, only to find it gone in an instant because of a shady investment deal. This informative webinar is designed to help seniors protect their assets.”
