Voting by Mail for Military Personnel & Overseas Citizens
Many times, overseas military voters, their overseas spouses and dependents, and other registered voters residing abroad have a difficult time obtaining, voting, and returning their ballots by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
In addition to help from the Nevada Secretary of State's office and the respective County Clerk/Registrar, the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) assists overseas citizens, military personnel and their family members with the voting process. FVAP offers an ombudsman service that puts citizens and local election officials directly in touch with FVAP via email, telephone or fax.
Please visit the FVAP's website www.fvap.gov for additional information. The FVAP's Voting Assistance Guide, which contains information specific to Nevada's laws, can be accessed at the following link: http://www.fvap.gov/pubs/vag/pdfvag/nv.pdf
FVAP can be reached toll-free in the U.S. at: 1-800-438-VOTE (8683), DSN (military) 425-1584 or Commercial (703) 588-1584 and fax (703) 696-1352. International toll-free phone numbers are listed within the Voting Assistance Guide. The email address is vote@fvap.ncr.gov.
In general, you may submit a single form to both register to vote and request an absent ballot using a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). You may obtain a FPCA by visiting the Voting Assistance Program's website at www.fvap.gov. These must be submitted by the appropriate deadline. A one time submission of a FPCA will allow one to absent vote for two federal election cycles following the date on which the local election official received the request. However, you must submit a subsequent FPCA every time you change your address in order for your ballot to be sent to your new location. Changes in your address, party affiliation, or other information in your registration record may be made by submitting a subsequent FPCA to your local election official.
